After 10+ years working in higher education in various roles, I am thrilled to be in a position that allows me to draw on a range of skills to support our students and our program. With graduate level social science training in geography—a very interdisciplinary discipline itself—Integrated Social Sciences is a natural fit for me. Having both experience in advising and teaching in community colleges, over time it became clear to me that my passion is working with students toward their long-term goals, challenging them to see connections between their courses and their own lives, and to help them develop the meta-cognitive skills needed to examine the process of learning in and of itself. I’m inspired by the determination and commitment our students bring to completing their degree, especially as they juggle multiple responsibilities between home, work, and family. Having taken, designed, and taught online courses myself, I see them as part of a valuable, rigorous, and flexible learning environment that promotes access to quality education for students who need to find creative ways to complete their degree. I benefited from the flexibility of online education myself when I taught courses in Virginia while living in Washington state with my family. I look forward to supporting you on your individual journey!
