GRADUATION FAQs

How can I view the ISS graduation celebration online, either live or after the event? We are broadcasting the event live on YouTube and will have the recording available once it concludes. https://www.youtube.com/live/IOLQUxZbDO8

Is this the same thing as UW Commencement? No! UW Commencement is a separate event that requires its own RSVP. Please visit https://www.washington.edu/graduation/ to learn more.

Can ISS students participate in UW Commencement? Yes!

Is it okay to go to both the UW Commencement and the ISS Graduation Celebration? Yes! We encourage this.

How will the two events be different? The ISS Graduation Celebration is a MUCH smaller, more intimate event. At our event, each graduating ISS student will have the opportunity to speak if they wish, and you will also hear from ISS faculty and alumni. Our event will also include a procession and the reading of graduate's names, but in a more informal, cozy setting. UW's Main Commencement ceremony is a large, highly choreographed event in Husky Stadium with lots of pomp and pageantry. Both events will be fun and meaningful, but in very different ways.

Who is eligible to participate in the ISS Graduation Celebration? All ISS graduates from Autumn 2024, Winter 2025, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025 (and their loved ones!) are invited to attend.

Should I wear and cap and gown? That is up to you. In the past, some ISS students have worn cap and gown to the ISS Graduation Celebration, and some have not. You should do whatever makes you feel comfortable and celebratory on your special day. If you would like to order a cap and gown, here is the link to do that. [NOTE: In order to purchase your cap and gown, you will be required to submit the commencement registration form as if you were going to the main UW commencement ceremony. If you do not intend to attend the main commencement ceremony, check the box stating that you will not attend.]

Can I bring people? Yes, please bring your people! More information about guests is coming soon.

Is this a kid-friendly event? Yes! Children are more than welcome at this event.

Will I receive my actual diploma at this event? No. Diplomas are mailed out by the Office of Ceremonies approximately two months after graduation. For more information about diplomas, please visit the Registrar's Diplomas Page

I am ready to RSVP. How do I do that? Registration for this event is now closed.
