University of Washington Communication (and ISS) professor Matt McGarrity, founder of the UW Speaking Center, will be the featured speaker at the university’s 36th annual Convocation. Convocation is the annual welcome ceremony for incoming students, and attendance is expected to be more than 6,000 people. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, in the Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion, and will also be streamed live by UW Video. See more at UW News!

ISS students have the opportunity to take a great class with Professor McGarrity in Winter Quarter 2020: COM 220, Public Speaking. If you have public speaking fears, wish to improve your public speaking skills, or your communication skills in general, this class, which Professor McGarrity also teaches on-campus, has been adapted beautifully for online students. See Professor's interview about the class here.
