Vicente Rafael is professor of History and Southeast Asian Studies at UW. HIs research interests include comparative colonialism, language and power, the politics of translation, comparative nationalism, the social history of media and mediation, critical theory and anthropology. He is the author of several works on the politics and culture of the colonial and post-colonial Philippines, and has also written on the US.
